RUGBY LEAGUE
Jovilisi runs it up against Taita
College Sport Wellington has set up a regional rugby league competition in the last couple of years, played at the finish of the rugby union season. In 2008, the Upper Hutt College team were the regional champions for the whole of Wellington. In 2009, they did it again!
Our team topped the local pool with wins over Heretaunga, Naenae and Taita Colleges at the end of term 3. Term 4 started with a strong victory against Wainuiomata College 28 to nil, followed by a win in the semis against St Pats Town 28 to 8 putting us into the Wellington finals.
In the final, played before a large crowd at the Hutt Park Raceway, the team prevailed over Taita College again in a hard fought encounter, winning 28 to 25. Well done to all the team!!
The team was managed by Jacky Awa and coached by Peter Rikiriki and Jason Crown. The 2009 captain was Kimi Pakipaki-Hemopo.
