YEAR 9 - GROUP B
French
In Year 9 French you will learn to:
- talk and write about yourself, your family and pets, your leisure activities. school and town
- understand others talking about these things
- say and write about your likes and dislikes, and enjoy French food
- read short comic booklets in French
You will learn using textbooks; role play and conversation; singing and playing games in French, reading French comic booklets, using video, DVD and ICT resources.
Japanese
In Year 9 Japanese you will learn:
- to talk about yourself, school, friends and activities and to understand other people talking about these things
- to read and write the Japanese text called Hiragana and some Kanji
- about the Japanese way of life
- You will learn using conversation activities, role plays and songs; workbooks; CD, video and ICT resources
Maori
Students will begin to learn the essential skills of the Maori language through:
- whakarongo (listening)
- korero (speaking)
- panui (reading)
- tuhituhi (writing)
- matakitaki (observing)
- whakaatu (producing)
- whai whakaaro (reflecting)
These skills will be taught through:
- karakia (prayer)
- korero-a-waha (speeches)
- marae kawa (rules of the marae)
- whakapapa (genealogy)
- whakatauaki (proverbs)
Electronics
Students will work with electronic components to produce practical projects. The course will cover some theory about electricity and how electronic components work. A research section will look at applications of components and how they are used in electrical circuits in the real world, e.g: cell phones. Students will use this knowledge to design and build their own simple electronic devices.

History - The Mysteries of Archaeology
History lets you travel through time and find out about people, places, events and ideas from the past. Year 9 History lets you discover the ancient world by exploring some of the great archaeological discoveries such as the Great Pyramids, Tutankhamun's Tomb, the Colosseum, Pompeii, Stonehenge, The Buried Village in Rotorua and many more from all around the world. Assessment activities include written and visual work, problem solving, creative thinking and a research project that involves model making.
Outdoor Education
This course is for students interested in the outdoors. The course will involve study in the following areas:
- orienteering and navigation
- rock climbing
- camping.
- bush walking
Course Fee: There will be a charge of approximately $150.00 for each student to cover the costs of trips out of school and the end of year camp.
