NZ Music Month 2011
NZ Music Month has come to an end for this year but what a massive performance packed month it has been! This month UHC really came to the party with a variety of shows given both at the college as well as a bunch of public performances by many of our budding musicians outside of school too. Let’s take stock of what happened this month…
It all started with the library concerts that spanned the entire month of May and featured many of our talented vocalists and instrumentalists who sang and played their hearts out. The Pacifika Band did their thing, we rocked out with Blood Stained Chains and the legendary Teachers Concert was a crowd pleaser. We were also fortunate enough to have professional singers and musicians Matt Pyke, Nikita Tu-Bryant and Waylon Edwards, come and perform for us in the Library and also as part of the Voices for Christchurch Concert Series, which was held at the school hall .
Outside of school, our students performed at The Grind at Ascot Cinema, attended an open day at STL Recording Studios in Wellington and played at the Mainly Acoustic Concert at the Upper Hutt Cosmopolitan Club which was headlined by NZ music legend, Wayne Mason, who penned the song “Nature” right here in Upper Hutt. That song has recently been awarded the honour of NZ’s Best Song Ever.
Our Cloud 9 Barbershop Quartet also performed their own show in the Library and on the final day of NZ Music Month 2011 they sang in the Young Singers in Harmony Regional Competition at the Wellington Town Hall. Good luck girls!
So, all in all a very successful NZ Music Month, it’s great to see so many of our students out there playing and performing and so many of you attending the concerts and supporting our talented musicians!!
Thanks to all of those who got involved, students and teachers who gave their time and to YOU for coming along! We have a great music culture here at UHC and it will only get better the more we support it. See you next year!!
