HOUSE COMPETITIONS

The House Trophy (in Hillary colours from 2008) up for grabs on Sports Day, 2009

House competitions run all year, starting with Athletics Day in term one. This day is both serious and fun, with the whole school participating in a variety of events for house points. These range from the traditonal track and field events, to gumboot throwing, tug of war, obstacle courses and so on.
Later in the year there are competitions organised by departments such as Languages, Technology and English. Then there is an Olympics of the Mind and Upper Hutt College week activities, including the notorious "drag-off" and junior sports at the end of the year.
Participation in all these events is organised by student House Leaders (with a little help from House staff), and there is great interest in the outcomes. Since the inception of our revamped House system and vertical forms by former principal Peter Lee at the end of 2004, the House Trophy has been won by Te Kanawa (2005), Blake (2006), Hillary (2007 and 2008) and Jackson (2009).
In 2010, competition is fierce once again and at present (26 August) there is little between the houses. Blake lead with Hillary second and Te Kanawa third.
